The Gastroenterology Institute comprises a referral clinic of 6000 patients a year, an endoscopic unit which performs 4000 examinations a year, and a G.I. Laboratory engaged in clinical and research work which provides the necessary tools for the management of G.I. patients (C-13 breath tests and absorptive studies).
Research Activities include:
Predicting therapeutic outcome and the response to steroids in various inflammatory conditions including IBD, by measuring in vitro steroid sensitivity of proliferating peripheral blood lymphocytes. Gastric motor function and small bowel transit time in ICU patients.
