Internal Medicine

The Division of Medicine of Shaare Zedek Medical Center encompasses 125 in-patient beds, including 58 of internal medicine (A+B), 40 geriatrics, 15 cardiology, 6 intensive coronary care and 6 general intensive care; a day hospital, a Medical Observation Unit adjacent to the Department of Emergency Medicine and sub-specialty services in: cardiology, nephrology, hemato-oncology, endocrinology, rheumatology, infectious diseases, pulmonology and gastroenterology.

Research Activities include:

Rheumatology and immunology, diabetes, nicotine metabolism and smoking, NSAIDS usage, complications of drugs therapy, infectious diseases, molecular and genetic basis of gastritis/IBD and treatments, portal hypertension, iron deficiency anemia, nitric oxide activity, the importance of blood count and smear, experimental atherosclerosis; lymphocyte cations; prolactin metabolism and control; iron toxicity and chelation; hypertension; neuro-geriatric problems; pathogenesis of pyelonephritis; molecular genetics, menifestations and enzyme replacement therapy in Gaucher's disease, management of arrhythmia, gall bladder function.
